About Us

Mission Statement

The Argus Foundation harnesses business leadership for effective community building. The values we hold are to keep a broad community perspective, create the future, and to offer solutions. We focus on issues such as Governance, Education, Environment and Land Planning, Health and Human Services and Transportation. The Argus Foundation accomplishes this by providing leadership and developing policies and programs, which foster a well diversified and financially strong business community, in turn enhancing the quality of life in Sarasota. The Argus Foundation also promotes cooperation and communication between government and businesses in the formulation and implementation of governmental policy. In addition, the Argus Foundation holds public officials accountable for performing their duties in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

History

The Argus Foundation was established in 1985 as a liaison between city, county, state and federal governments to engage in matters impacting the quality of life in Southwest Florida. Since its inception, Argus has been involved with many critical issues that have had a broad impact on many lives. Aside from specific issues, The Argus Foundation has created a vehicle by which business leaders are more cognizant and involved in the critical concerns that shape and direct our immediate and future well being. Today, the Argus Foundation has 170 active members made up of a broad cross section of the business and professional community representing more than 50 different industries. In addition to ensuring that our elected officials perform their duties efficiently, and because it does not endorse political candidates, the Argus Foundation is also in an impartial position to advise and assist public officials in decisions that affect the lifestyle, environment, and economic well-being of our area.
