Keeping its members abreast of developing issues within the Sarasota community, the Argus Foundation hosts general membership meetings quarterly as well as regular luncheon forums.

Called Meet the Minds, Argus luncheons feature nationally recognized guest speakers invited to speak on timely subjects relevant to the Sarasota community.

August 14, 2006 - “Insurance of Florida: What Happens Next?”

On August 14, 2006, the Argus Foundation hosted a debate between two Republicans. Running for the Florida CFO office, candidates Tom Lee and Randy Johnson squared off on the topic of “Insurance of Florida: What Happens Next?”

During the event, State Representative Randy Johnson of Celebration, Osceola County, and State Senator Tom Lee of Brandon, Hillsborough County, debated the future of the insurance business in Florida. A Q&A session followed the debate when several members of the audience posed questions to the candidates.

July 17, 2006 - “Toll Roads in Manatee & Sarasota Counties?

Mr. Jim Ely, Executive Director of the Florida Turnpike Authority, was the featured speaker during Meet the Minds on July 17, 2006. Ely spoke on the topic of “User Financed Transportation in Florida,” providing information about the Turnpike Authority which currently serves over 1.6 million people each day.
